Ma Rainey's Black Bottom. The Piano Lesson. Fences.

This is the story behind the Pulitzer Prize winner's journey from school drop out to acclaimed playwright. Fascinating and inspiring. Challenging and gritty. In his one-man show, August Wilson takes us on a journey through his days as a struggling young poet in Pittsburg's deteriorating Hill District. His stories look at his first jobs, a stint in jail, the support of his lifelong friends, and his encounters with racism, music, and love.

We are bringing High School students from Monroe County School System to celebrate Black History Month by attending daytime productions of this show, Feb 14-16. This Field Trip to Fringe educational and outreach project is paid for, in part, with a special grant from the Florida Keys Council of the Arts and private donations.

Sponsored in part by the Florida Keys Council of the Arts, the State of Florida, Department of State, Division of Cultural Affairs, the Florida Council on Arts and Culture and private donations.
