JOHN LOGAN for RED
John Logan has written for gladiators, secret agents, and Hollywood legends, but one of his greatest theatrical triumphs came from putting two men in a room with a few buckets of paint. The acclaimed American screenwriter behind Gladiator, Skyfall, and The Aviator is also a lifelong theater enthusiast who spent years writing plays before Hollywood came calling. His Tony Award-winning RED grew from his fascination with abstract expressionist Mark Rothko, an artist whose fierce convictions about creativity, commerce, and artistic integrity made him irresistible dramatic material. Logan's gift is finding the very human conflicts beneath larger-than-life personalities, turning philosophical arguments into riveting theater. For Key West's vibrant arts community, his portrait of an artist wrestling with success and authenticity offers a particularly provocative question: Can an artist remain true to a vision when the world is willing to pay handsomely for it?
